Who
In June 2003, 20 of the biggest festival organisers christened a new association:
The Federation of Music Festivals in Flanders - FMiV
In 2025, the federation became national and Walloon festivals joined it.
Thus was born the Festival Federation.
The Festival Federation is the umbrella and representative of recognised organisations active in the festival sector.
The Festival Federation coordinates and formulates positions on all issues that concern its members and the entire festival sector, such as cultural policy, the status of the artist, copyright, infrastructure, fiscal matters relating to festivals, social security, labour relations, safety, non-profit legislation, etc. It informs its members about the impact of this on their operations and also contacts the competent authorities about this.
This not-for-profit association aims to represent the member festivals and the whole festival community and promote the common interests and take the necessary initiatives to this end.
- sharing information, experience and contacts between all members regarding the activities of all members
- creating a common basis for promoting all member festivals at home and abroad
- promoting contacts and cooperation projects with artistic and business themes between members or with other domestic and/or foreign festivals
- setting up various projects that benefit members' own projects, such as learning networks for daring festivals and the continuity initiatives that grow out of them
- gathering and providing information on all aspects that are important for a festival organiser
- organising studies, in cooperation with universities, to strengthen the credibility of festivals towards authorities, sponsors and the public
